A gospel quartet out of Plum Branch, South Carolina, singing in a family lineage that runs back more than sixty years — now a fixture of the roots festival circuit.
Biography
The Flying Clouds of South Carolina are a gospel quartet out of Plum Branch, founded in 1960 and carried since then by the same family. A 2026 Stellar Award nominee, the group has played the roots festival circuit — Nelsonville, Shakori Hills, LEAF and Finger Lakes GrassRoots — since 1999.
The Flying Clouds of South Carolina carry one of the South’s long-running gospel quartet names. Founded in 1960, the group came up in the church convention circuit of McCormick County and has passed through generations of the same family, now led by the sons of the men who started it.
Their repertoire runs from traditional quartet harmony to original material — including the single “Don’t Leave Me” — and the live show moves between close-harmony gospel and full-band soul. Nominated for a 2026 Stellar Award, they have been a fixture of the roots festival circuit since their first Finger Lakes GrassRoots appearance in 1999.
